Marc developed his love of the game during his junior golf career at Warrnambool, his potential was on display from an early age winning the Club Championship at age 13. In 2001, Marc won the Victorian Junior Masters, the South Australian Junior Masters and was the Victorian Boys Champion. He turned professional in 2005 and played on the Von Nida Tour, winning three tournaments over the 2006-2007 seasons (topping the Order of Merit in 2006).
In 2007, Marc played his rookie season on the Web.com Tour finishing 92nd on the money list. He won his maiden title on the Web.com Tour in 2008 at the WNB Golf Classic by a record-equalling (with Chris Smith) eleven shots. He finished the year 19th on the money list to earn his PGA Tour card for the 2009 season.
Marc was voted the PGA Tour Rookie of the Year in 2009 after recording three top-10 finishes, which included a runner-up finish behind Tiger Woods at the BMW Championship. He ended the year 53rd on the money list.
Marc recorded his second runner-up finish of his PGA Tour career at the Farmers Insurance Open in 2010. He finished inside the top 100 on the money list in both 2010 and 2011. He reached the BMW Championship in both seasons.
Marc won his first tournament after 96 starts on the PGA Tour in June 2012 at the Travelers Championship, coming from six strokes back of the 54 hole leaders to win by a stroke. He shot a final round of 62, which included eight birdies and no bogeys to match his career best round and second best comeback in the tournament's history. He became the second Australian to win the event after Greg Norman in 1995.
At the 2013 Masters Tournament, after co-leading the first round and maintaining his challenge over the second and third rounds, Marc finished T-4 with Tiger Woods, four shots off the lead.
In 2015, at The Open Championship at St Andrews, Marc finished as joint runner-up after losing in a four-hole aggregate playoff during a Monday finish to the delayed tournament. After coming close to missing the cut after the first two rounds, Marc shot a 64 during the third round and a 66 in the final round to finish in a tie for first place with Zac Johnson and Louis Oosthuizen.
In 2017 Marc won his second tournament on the PGA Tour, with a one-shot win in the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill. After sinking a monster 51-foot eagle putt on the par 5 16th on the last day to take the outright lead he held on to record a memorable victory.
Marc won for the third time on the PGA Tour by winning the 2017 BMW Championship. Marc lead the field from start to finish and ended at 23-under 261, breaking the 72-hole tournament record that Tiger Woods set at Cog Hill in 2007.
Marc Leishman secured his fourth PGA Tour victory at the CIMB Classic in Malaysia on Sunday 14th October 2018. Marc shot rounds of 68, 62, 67, 65 and to finish 26-under at the Tournament Players Club Kuala Lumpur, 5 shots in front of his nearest competitor.
Marc won for the 5th time on the PGA Tour on Sunday 26th January 2020. Marc won with a one shot victory in the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines in San Diego, California. Marc had rounds of 68, 72, 68 and a closing round 65 to finish at 15 under par!
Marc Leishman's 6th PGA Tour win was at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans (April 22-25th 2021). Marc was partnered with Cameron Smith a fellow Australian. The duo played the first and third rounds as a 4BBB Stroke format, the second and final rounds were played as a Foursomes (alternating shot format). At the conclusion of 72 holes Marc and Cameron were tied with the South African pair of Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel with a score of 20 under (Rounds of 63,72,63,70). Marc and Cameron won on the first playoff hole.
